ADOPT MAKA KOA TODAY!

Maka Koa was first spotted in 1999 in the Maui Nui area by PWF researchers who noted at the time distinct scars on the dolphin’s dorsal fin indicative of a fisheries interaction. Since that initial sighting, Maka Koa has been seen six additional times, including a recent sighting on April 20, 2021. During this last sighting, our researchers used drones to collect valuable body measurement data after Maka Koa was spotted traveling with five other bottlenose dolphins.
