In the Honolua area of northwest Maui, the Green Sea Turtles, called Honu by the ancient Hawaiians, have persevered through decades of habitat reduction. This image is from a multi-year project documenting the turtle’s lives, and the mesmerizing, wave scattered light that falls on them.
Why Don supports PWF: I am happy to support the Pacific Whale Foundation, and hopefully help inspire conservation of the sea life around Maui with my photography. I live part-time in Napili and have done many whale-watch tours with PWF. PWF trips are an introduction to the waters off Maui for many people, and the information and amazingly close encounters with the Humpbacks and dolphins are memories that do more to inspire protection and conservation than anything else possibly could.
